The 4-inch size offers a subtle yet elegant design that suits various interior styles, from contemporary to classic. Installing a 4-inch plain PU (Polyurethane) cornice is a straightforward process that involves a few key steps. PU cornices are a popular choice for interior decoration due to their durability, ease of installation, and lightweight nature. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install them:

Materials and Tools Required:

  1. PU Cornice (4-inch)
  2. Measuring Tape
  3. Pencil
  4. Cutting Tool (Hacksaw or a utility knife)
  5. Glue or Adhesive (Polyurethane adhesive or Construction adhesive)
  6. Caulk (if necessary)
  7. Paint (optional)
  8. Brush
  9. Step Ladder (for reaching higher walls)
  10. Spirit Level
  11. Clamps (optional)

Installation Steps:

1. Preparation

  • Measure the Walls: Begin by measuring the length of the wall where you want to install the cornice. Use a measuring tape and note the total length needed.
  • Mark the Cornice Height: Use a pencil and spirit level to mark a straight, level line around the perimeter of the room at the height where the cornice will sit.

2. Cutting the Cornice

  • Cut to Size: Based on your wall measurements, cut the PU cornice to the required lengths. A saw or utility knife can be used to make clean, precise cuts. Be sure to cut at the right angle (usually 45 degrees) for corners if needed.
  • Test Fit: Before applying adhesive, dry-fit the pieces on the wall to ensure they fit together properly, especially around corners.

3. Prepare the Wall

  • Clean the Surface: The wall should be clean and free of dust or debris. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the surface and allow it to dry before applying adhesive.

4. Apply Adhesive

  • Apply Glue to the Cornice: Apply a generous amount of polyurethane or construction adhesive to the back of the cornice. Ensure that the adhesive is spread evenly along the edges and middle sections.

5. Position the Cornice

  • Attach to Wall: Carefully press the PU cornice against the marked line on the wall. Start from one corner and move along the wall. For added support, use clamps or hold it in place for a few minutes to ensure it sticks well.
  • Check Alignment: As you place the cornice, make sure it is level and properly aligned with the marks. Use a spirit level to double-check the positioning.

6. Secure the Cornice

  • Press Firmly: Once the cornice is aligned, press it firmly into place. You can also use small finishing nails or screws if needed, though this is typically not required for PU cornices, as the adhesive should be strong enough.

7. Finishing Touches

  • Fill Gaps: If there are any visible gaps between the cornice and the wall, use caulk or filler to fill them in. Smooth out the caulk with a damp finger or a cloth to ensure a clean finish.
  • Paint (Optional): Once the adhesive has fully dried (usually within 24 hours), you can paint the cornice to match your room’s color scheme. Use a high-quality paint designed for polyurethane surfaces. Apply 1-2 coats as needed.

8. Final Inspection

  • Check for Stability: Ensure that the cornice is securely attached to the wall and there are no loose edges.
  • Clean Up: Wipe away any excess adhesive or caulk that may have oozed out during the installation.

How PU Cornice Works:

  • Aesthetic Function: A cornice adds a decorative touch where the wall meets the ceiling, enhancing the visual appeal of a room by creating a transition between these two surfaces.
  • Conceal Imperfections: PU cornices are particularly useful for covering gaps, seams, or imperfections where the wall and ceiling meet.
  • Durability: Polyurethane is lightweight, durable, and resistant to moisture, making it an ideal material for both decorative and functional uses in interiors.
